Another beautiful Monday. The sun is higher in the sky and you can really feel spring in the air now. I'm just waiting to hear the first robin of the year.
Math:
Today in math, students engaged in a 3D Bingo game. They were given drawings of 3D shapes and a blank bingo card. Students were then given clues about objects (for example, "This shape has no edges, no vertices, and no faces." Answer: sphere.), and then they glued the drawings onto their card. When this is done, we will wrap up the unit with a 3D scavenger hunt around the school. I am looking forward to seeing what everyday objects they find around the school.
Writing - Mrs. Hordyk's and Mr. Mackenzie's classes:
We continued on with non-fiction writing today. Students were given a paragraph scramble activity. The sentences were jumbled and they had to sort for Topic sentence, three supporting sentences with detail sentences, and then the 'clincher', or concluding, sentence. This is a great activity to see where the students are at, and what kind of support is needed. We will be using the format of this paragraph as a basis for their paragraph writing.
Writing - Mrs. Redd's and Mrs. Predika's classes:
Today we started working on non-fiction writing, which will come in handy for the next social studies country research project. Students listened for paragraph structure during a read aloud of The Important Book, by Margaret Wise Brown. Students discussed the topic sentence and how the following sentences supported the topic sentence idea. They started working on a paragraph scramble, which will become the organizer for their paragraph writing.
I hope you all can enjoy this gorgeous weather we are having. While it is difficult to readjust our sleep to the time change, it certainly is nice enjoying the light in the evening.
Cheers!
