I have parents who are able to bring a fruit tray, cheese and crackers and napkins. If you are able to bring a veggie tray, please email me. A great big thank you to our families who have volunteered to bring healthy treats for us!
Please return Alien Inline Forms Today in class we looked at what we need to learn about Alberta this year. Students will be experiencing the curriculum through acting and stories and choosing how to represent all that they have learned. An exciting start! As your child about mixing light and colour. What are the primary colours of light? Hope this gives you some dinner table conversation! Best, Mrs. Maronese Students are welcome to wear their costumes on Thursday for Halloween. Please make sure that costumes do not have masks, weapons and are not too scary.
We will also be watching a movie for the last hour of the day. If you are able to donate one of the following snacks below for our class, please email me. - Fruit tray - Veggie tray - Cheese and crackers - napkins Thank You! Please return green Alien Inline forms as soon as possible. No School on Friday. Today we had another chat about responsibility. How does this video show responsibility? How is the lighthouse like our classroom? Here is a math problem we worked on this week. So far, the students have only been able find one combination of zios and septs. Are you able to find more?
Hope this gives you some dinner table conversation!
Best, Mrs. Maronese Please return the green permission forms for inline skating as soon as possible.
Aline inline dates for Room 81: - Tues Nov. 3 - Friday Nov. 6 - Thurs. Nov. 12th - Monday Nov. 16th Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately with clean socks, avoid skirts/dresses and if you could send your own helmet that would be great! We had a chat in morning meeting today about responsibility. What is responsibility? How do you show responsibility and why is it important? Today students were given time in the afternoon to work on completing the rough draft of their region writing, complete their plaster-scene (ha ha), and any catch up they needed to do in French. They used their time well! Check it out! Hope you have a good evening!
Mrs. Maronese A Message from Mr. Craig, 2015/2016 School Survey As we continue to plan for school improvement and programs for our learners, we are looking for your input. We have created a short five minute survey on quality of education, parent involvement, digital citizenship, and residency programs here at Evergreen. Links to the survey can be found here. We thank you for your time and input. Your feedback is important to us in our planning process. We have been working so hard in here! Students have been working on creating a 5 paragraph expository paper on their region of Alberta. At the same time, we have been studying the work of Barbara Reid and her techniques. Students are creating a landscape of their region using plasticine medium in the style of Barbara Reid. In math we are working on multiplication.
For the first part of our class, we are working on learning our basic facts up to 9x9. The most important thing is that the students develop flexibility in thinking. For example, if I know 5x6 = 30, then I can figure out 6x6 because it is the same as 30 +6. We have been working on different tips and tricks each day. If you are looking for homework practice for your child, basic multiplication facts would be a great option. In the second half of class, we are learning a variety of multiplication strategies for when multiplying more than one digit, such as repeated addition and expanded notation. Hope this gives you some interesting dinner table conversation! Best, Mrs. Maronese ATTENTION: Volunteers Needed for Upcoming Casino! We are less than two weeks away and short 10 volunteers. Did you know that Evergreen School Parent Advisory Council has raised over $140,000 since the school opened? We expect to raise over $60,000 by volunteering for our upcoming casino on November 1 and 2, but need your help to fill volunteer roles!! Our casino funds have paid for our school playground and naturalization area, artists-in-residence to teach their talents at the school, books for the learning commons, computers, iPads, cameras and other electronics used by students in the classroom, and a new set of handbells for our music program. We are lucky enough to volunteer at a casino every 21 months or so, and may lose this valuable fundraiser if we are unable to staff the upcoming event. - No experience required!! - It's FUN!! - It's easy!! - Meals, snacks, refreshments provided. - Do not need a criminal records check through the school. - Can ask friends, neighbours, the grandparents. - Get a babysitter and make it a date-night! - The shifts may be awkward hours, but remember this is only once in a two year period and provides a huge benefit to the children attending the school. If you would like to sign up for a shift at our casino please visit www.volunteersignup.org/QJ4MD or email[email protected] And on another note.... This was a fun point of discussion today!
Hope this gives you some interesting dinner table conversation and PLEASE consider volunteering for the casino. We need volunteers like you to make this school amazing! Best, Mrs. Maronese Picture orders are due!
Don't forget to vote! :) A note on digital citizenship... Dear Parents and Guardians, All students at Evergreen school have access to a variety of digital tools in their daily learning. From desktop and laptop computers to iPads and iPods, our students use technology to enhance and support their learning in many ways. A wireless student network for Internet access using student owned personal electronic devices (such as iPods, iPads, tablets, or laptop computers) is provided at Evergreen School. The use of personal devices by students, with the guidance of parents and teachers will assist in addressing individual student preferences and needs for learning. Access to the LAWN (Learner Accessible Wireless Network) is available to students on a voluntary basis. The LAWN emphasizes student learning and places responsibility on students for appropriate use and behavior. All parents/guardians are encouraged to discuss the learning opportunities and the risks with their son or daughter. A copy of a parent student contract will be available through message easy and on our school website. Students who wish to bring digital devices to school to use in their learning will be required to sign the contract with their parents' permission and return it to school beforehand. Be assured that the content filtering that is normally used to filter inappropriate material and content on the school’s internal network will also be applied to the open access network. As with any personal belonging that a student brings to school, the school cannot be responsible for electronic devices that are lost, stolen or damaged. This is a significant opportunity for students to personalize their learning by choosing with their parent’s appropriate technology for their learning needs. Thank you for your attention to this important information.
