Please see Monday's post about snacks for Friday. Please comment on Monday's post if you are able to bring a veggie tray on Friday.
We are caroling on Friday at 10:15. The choir and handbells are also performing. Please join us! What did you learn in school today? Please see yesterday's post for announcements. Today we had a busy day. In math, students wrote their own multiplication and division story problems yesterday. I have compiled them together and over the next couple days the students are solving each other's problems. I will send home their work on Thursday. In science, we are learning about how items biodegrade. Ask your child about our experiment. What predictions did they make? Home Learning Ask your child about this video. What is happening? Why? Have a good night!

Canstruction Our grade four design team is just about ready to begin their Canstruction® project on Tuesday afternoon for the Calgary Food Bank. This year’s theme is nature. The grade 4 design team has decided to extend their learning about the regions of Alberta and build a model of the Rocky Mountains. They have already received a number of colour specific donations for their creation. At this time they are still looking for donations of cans or boxes, specifically withbrown/black/grey, green and blue coloured labels. All food donations are gratefully accepted and can be dropped off at the school office anytime up until Tuesday at noon. Thank you for your support of this project which in turn will go to support needy Calgarians. What did you learn in school today? We started an inquiry about waste in our world. Students will be learning why some items are biodegradable and which are not. We will be learning about toxins and packaging. Lots to come in addition to our presentations on recycling from the beginning of the year. Home Learning What does biodegradable mean? Are there parts of the word that you already know the meaning of? Hope you have some interesting dinner table conversations! Best, Mrs. Maronese Report Cards come home today!
I am so proud of all the students and their hard work. A yellow letter from Mrs. Healing explains the reports and when we will have face to face meetings this year. Have a wonderful weekend, Mrs. Maronese What did you learn in school today?
We were very lucky to have an electrical engineer, Stephanie, visit with our class today. We worked with Stephanie to learn and develop coding skills. The students were incredibly engaged and will likely be begging you to do it at home! I am personally addicted to Lightbot. Play at your own peril. Students also finished their card tournament in math today. Congrats to team R&R. Home Learning Try writing some code! Follow the link HERE. Hope this gives you some interesting dinner table conversation! Best, Mrs. Maronese What did you learn in school today? The students have spent the last month or so learning strategies to solve 3 by 1 digit multiplication and division problems. Something I think most students could work on is learning their basic multiplication facts to make their strategies more efficient. See a card game below that we have learned to practice our skills. We began to learn about how First Nations changed over time. We learned a little about Treaty 7 and the agreement that was made. What did you child think about the changes in the First Nations' lifestyle? Discuss with your child In French we learned how to describe some weather conditions. We are going to make this vocabulary part of our morning routine. Home Learning Try playing this game with your child at home to practice basic math facts. Have fun!
Best, Mrs. Maronese On the afternoon of December 8th, we will have an engineer with Scientists in Schools present a Wheels in Motion workshop. We will need 4 or 5 adult volunteers to help make the afternoon run smoothly.
I don't have ANY volunteers. I'm offering bribes. Starbucks? Tims? Pretty please with a cherry on top? If you have your volunteer clearance, we could really use your help. If you are interested in participating, please email me. [email protected] I will also take coffee orders in the email. :) Spelling Test TOMORROW
No school Friday Toy and Book Sale tomorrow What did you learn in school today? Today we learned about First Nations groups in Alberta and what region they lived in long ago in our province. We also learned a Dene hand game that is played by many groups of First Nations at pow wows and gatherings. Ask your child how to play. You can even play as a family. The kids were really engaged in this game! Click here for instructions. Home Learning Have your child tell or write the instructions for the hand game. Play together as a family! Hope you have a fun evening! Best, Mrs. Maronese Book and Toy Sale on Thursday No school for students on Friday What did you learn in school today? We went hunting for bison. Kind of! Ask your child about our bison activities from the afternoon. We explored Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump online, looked at artifacts (or pictures of artifacts), and learned how all of the parts of the bison was used. What was the most interesting thing that your child learned about today? Click here to find out more. Home Learning What are these artifacts? How were they used? What were they made of? Hope this gives you some interesting (and hopefully appropriate for the dinner table!) dinner table conversation!
