Hello one and all!
Math:
In today's math class, we did a quick recap of yesterday's activity. The next step: students analyzed a visual set, and then had to write out a number sentence.

In today's math class, we did a quick recap of yesterday's activity. The next step: students analyzed a visual set, and then had to write out a number sentence.
The students enjoyed the challenge, which is always a great thing!
One concept that was a bit of a mind bender was the 1 times and 0 times table. The students worked through the problem, asking great questions, and explaining to each other why, for instance, 3 x 0 = 0 or 0 x 5 = 0.
Writing - Mrs. Hordyk's and Mr. Mackenzie's classes:
Today, we edited our Topic Sentence, using hooks to capture the reader's attention. We also talked about how we want to show the reader, not tell. For instance, instead of writing, "My bike is fast." write, "My hair flies behind me as my BMX thunders down the hill." We use strategies to have them build the picture in their head and then describe it.
Writing - Mrs. Redd's and Mrs. Predika's classes:
We continued with our non-fiction writing, working on our Topic Sentence and show, not tell. The students pictured their objects in their head, and then thought about how they felt about it. We will continue with this next week.
