What Did You Learn Today?
This afternoon, our occupational therapist visited us. She is working with students through activities and games to learn how to use time management skills. She has been helping students to use steps to break a larger task into smaller more manageable parts:
Goal
Plan
Do
Check
We continued our simple machines unit with a new challenge. We considered the pyramids and pyramid Khufu. How did a civilization with no modern technology lift 2 tonne bricks 146 metres to the top of the pyramid? Each team of students were given a brick and a newton meter with the challenge of lifting the brick to the seat of a chair using the least amount of newtons. They were allowed to use whatever materials they could find in the classroom to help them complete the challenge. We are still working on this, so try not to give any tips at home!
Home Learning
Are there tasks at home that your child could break down into smaller steps and practice time management. Do you have a family calendar at home? Share with your child how you use it to manage time as a family.
The video I shared with students about the pyramids. I paused the video at 5:25 to not give anything away!
