Students continued working on their fiction stories. We are constantly conferencing together, both with peers and teacher, to help build their stories from "shut-the-book" to "I just want to keep reading!". The puppets are helping bring their voice into their stories.
Math:
This week, we moved into fractions, which is a nice slide from division. Students were given fraction rods.

This week, we moved into fractions, which is a nice slide from division. Students were given fraction rods.
These rods are colour coded depending on size. Students then picked a larger rod, and then found smaller, same sized rods to show how the whole can be split into equal parts. They learned familiar and new vocabulary (halves, fourths, sevenths, ...) and used this to show their fractions.
The next step was writing down their fractions with words.

The orange is the whole. Using 5 equal red rods, the whole can be divided equally into 5 parts, so this is called 'fifths'.
