I believe that you are your child's first and most important teacher. So, you might be looking for some work to do at home with your child.
Please follow this link to read Calgary Board of Education's policy on homework. Your child has just entered Division II.

"Homework" should not take longer than 20 minutes each night. I do not send home formal homework unless your child was unable to complete an assignment in the time given, and I feel that they were capable. I do not send home projects. I do not send home busy work.
Studies show that the purpose of homework at this age is just to set up study habits so they are prepared for when projects come along in the older grades and post-secondary education.
Looking for "homework" for your child?
- READ!!! Set aside a special time for you and your child to read together. It can be in a language you speak at home, a chapter book that you work through together, magazines or newspapers. Most of the homework your child does should be of the reading type.
- Write a journal or story
- Read the blog and chat about it
I hope this answers any questions that you might have about homework!
Things that we were up to today!
- We started narrative writing
- We started research on our natural regions of Alberta
- We wrote a riddle about a "secret number"
- We fed our worms for the first time!
Hope you have some interesting dinner table conversation!
Best,
Mrs. Maronese
