Do not forget the Evergreen's Got Talent! show this Friday morning. I am very excited to see the Grade 3 and 4 students give their all for the school and their families.
Writing - Mrs. Hordyk's and Mr. MacKenzie's classes:
Today, the students created their own writing resource bank, brainstorming characters, settings, and problems they know, or have experienced. This is an important step for students so they can write what they know best. Students are learning that problems in stories don't have to be big, complicated problems, but simple ones, such as not having a pencil for class. We will be using this in future narrative writing.
Writing - Mrs. Redd's and Mrs. Predika's classes:
Today in writing, students continued to fill in the story map for Lilly's Plastic Purse. We will continue deconstructing stories to help them understand the process of writing, by considering characters, setting, problem, and solutions.
Math:
In math, we did an activity called Goody Bag Emporium. Students were given a flyer of various items, such as a bouncy ball or a Lego man. Each item had a cost of $1.00 to $6.00. They were also given a dice. The roll of the dice indicated how many groups of an item, and they had to multiply this by the cost of each item. The challenge in this activity is taking all their products (totals) and adding them together to figure out how much everything would cost.
