Today we celebrated Family Literacy Day by having a guest read a story to our class. Mrs. Stewart came and read to us, and I shared a story with the grade 1 classes. Students really enjoyed the story and guest teacher! In the afternoon we all read together for 20 minutes at 1:00. This was called a DER, drop everything and read. It might be fun to try this at home!
In Social Studies students continued with their research. It was very helpful for students to read through the Social Studies websites on the blog to help them become more familiar with the information, and be able to choose the most important facts. There are also some good videos to watch on the link as well.
In Math today we started our new Math unit on shape and space. We focused on the word polygon. Through looking at different types of shapes we generated a definition of the word polygon.
Polygon: A closed shape with straight sides. Tomorrow we will look around our classroom to identify polygons that they see.
In Poetry we worked on generating a poem based on the 5 W’s
We then shared our poetry together.
We created a shared piece of writing, here is what we came up with.
Hockey
Edges scratch against the ice,
Making the snow jump into the air.
Wood meets the black puck,
Pushing it towards the mesh and metal of the net.
Ring, ring,
The buzzer sounds.
Echoing congratulations around our team.
Spelling test Thursday.
No school Friday.
Please read for 15 minutes.
Have a wonderful evening.
