We had a busy day in room 58. Students put their finishing touches on their birch tree art, as well as their pattern books.
In Math today students were given a challenging question! After watching a video of the song “The 12 Days of Christmas” students were asked how many presents were given in total? The room was buzzing as students set to work to figure out the answer. Some used addition, some used multiplication, and others used a combination of the two. Can you figure out how many presents there were in total?? Tomorrow is pajama day! If you would like to send a healthy snack with your child to share with the class, feel free! Just a reminder no nuts. Report cards will also be sent home tomorrow. Please note: For those students who were away and missed making their gingerbread house, I will bring in some icing tomorrow so they can finish their house. Have a wonderful evening! Today we were able to watch the Kindergarten classes and grade 1’s and grade 2’s perform in Snow Biz. What a fantastic show!! We enjoyed it a lot.
We worked on our winter birch tree art. Tomorrow we will put the finishing touches on our beautiful trees. In Math we were able to reflect on all the learning that went on while we were working on our gingerbread house project. Students looked through the Math learner outcomes in the front of their Math notebooks and checked off all the outcomes that we worked on. As they reflected on what they learned we also spent some time writing about challenges that were experienced during the project. One of our students chose the quote for the week yesterday. Thanks to O.A. for choosing such an inspiring quote for us to keep in mind as we go forward into a new year. The quote he chose was: Find your greatness. by Rebecca. Pajama Day is Friday students, may bring a stuffed animal if they wish. Have a wonderful evening. Mrs. Predika Tomorrow we are looking forward to constructing our gingerbread houses. We now have enough graham crackers and cardboard! Students finalized their designs and their orders today. They are ready to construct their houses!
We are working on putting the finishing touches on our pattern stories. They are looking amazing. There are no new spelling words this week. -Friday is pajama day and students can bring a stuffed animal if they like. -Report cards go home on Friday. Have a wonderful evening! Mrs. Predika Today we continued to work on our very exciting project in Math! Today students completed their order forms and placed their orders for their candy supplies. We will have some time on Monday during Math for students to complete these forms if they did not quite finish today. We will be building our houses starting on Tuesday.
We now have enough cardboard for the project. Thanks to all of the students who brought in cardboard. We could still use a few more boxes of graham crackers for our houses. If you have some to send in that would be wonderful. There are no new spelling words for next Friday. I will be giving a special spelling test to see how the students are doing with some of our commonly misspelled words. Thank you, Have a wonderful weekend. We worked very hard today! Students were introduced to a multiplication table, and we filled it out to 5x5. The students will be placing their orders’ for their gingerbread houses tomorrow.
There have been some questions about how to contribute to the gingerbread house project. If you could send your child to school with a box of graham crackers, we would be very appreciative. If you have any other questions, please leave them in the comment section below or send me an email. Our writing time has been going very well. Students are working hard to publish their books and finish up their illustrations. I must say they are doing an amazing job! We are still collecting cardboard!!! Please send any with your child tomorrow!! Tomorrow students will be continuing to order their materials. A tutorial for how we are doing this can be found here (Or you can hover your mouse over "Math" > "Gingerbread Math"). Spelling test tomorrow. Have a wonderful evening. Mrs. Predika Today we continued to work on our very exciting project in Math! Today students began planning their houses and creating a pattern for the roof. They will begin to think about the type of candies they will like to use in their house tomorrow. Please check out the gingerbread house link on our grade 3 blog.
In Social studies today we practiced looking at different images. We were being detectives, looking for clues in the photographs that tell a story about what is happening in the picture. We were learning about the difference between clues and conclusions today. We are looking for cardboard to use as a base for our gingerbread houses. If you have any extra please send it in with your child this week! It should be strong enough to hold a gingerbread house (not a cereal box). Spelling test is on Friday. Thank you, Have a wonderful evening. Mrs. Predika Today we started a very exciting project in Math! Students received a letter from the grade three team explaining that a gingerbread man from grade one has gone missing! The students have a very important job to create a gingerbread house for him. We will be working through the project from start to finish, and today we brainstormed what we will need to do and the order we will need to do things. Students began to sketch their ideas in their visual journals and made predictions about how we will be using addition, subtraction and patterning in our upcoming project. Please check out the letter the students received as well as ideas on how to build the gingerbread house on our Math tab found on the blog home page.
We are looking for cardboard to use as a base for our gingerbread houses. If you have any extra please send it in with your child this week! It should be strong enough to hold a gingerbread house (not a cereal box). I am also looking for a couple parent volunteers to come in on Friday December 12 to help prepare some of the items for our gingerbread making. If you have your security clearance and you would be available to volunteer any time on Friday during school, please comment below or send me an email! Thank you, Have a wonderful evening. Mrs. Predika Next weeks spelling words: We were able to make some great purchases today to support Stephen’s Backpack! We also were able to practice our subtraction strategies today through making purchases for our room project. Students were finalizing their purchases today and organizing their rooms.
Thank you to everyone for your donations of toys for Stephen's Backpack, and food for the Food bank! -No school tomorrow. Have a wonderful weekend! Mrs. Predika In Science today we created rock cycle models with modeling clay. Students used beads and different colours of clay to represent the three different types of rocks. They then labeled their rock cycles and explained their model.
In Math we were given a challenge to create a number using a base ten chart that uses 15 base 10 blocks. Together we discovered what the smallest number we could make using our place value chart could be. We also talked about what a very large number might be. We have two more days to collect food for the food bank, and one more day to bring in toys for the toy sale. -Spelling test is on Thursday. -No school on Friday. |
