It was the perfect day for our walk to Fish Creek Park. We were able to complete two separate tasks there. The first task that the students completed was to observe and record different kinds of waste, natural waste and man-made waste. The second task that students completed was to choose a plant that and sketch what this plant looks like in their visual journals. We hope to go back and revisit this plant at different seasons so we can observed the changes that occur to plants during the different times of year.
In Math today we took a closer look at division. We read together the story titled The Doorbell Rang, and discovered different ways to share 12 cookies with different numbers of friends.
Students were then given a problem to solve in their table groups. The story was a group of 4 students found five dollars on the way to school. They turned it into the principal when they got to school. A week later, the principal called the children back to her office, and told them no one had claimed the money and that it was theirs to keep. However, first they had to figure how to share it equally among the four of them. The students were able to work together to solve this problem and explain their reasoning.
In Writing we talked about artifact boxes and what we would put into an artifact box to help us to remember special times.
Homework:
Students need to read for 20 minutes tonight.
Questions of the day:
What is an example of man made waste that you observed on our walk today?
Give an example of natural waste that you observed on our walk today.
Have a wonderful evening.
