In Science today we concluded our investigation of the question Will one large pillar support more mass than four smaller pillars? Yesterday students worked in groups to see how many textbooks one pillar would support. They were surprised to see how many textbooks one pillar (which was made out of construction paper) could hold. Some groups were able to support 27 textbooks with one pillar. Today students took the same size and type of construction paper and created four pillars. They were astounded to see that four pillars could hold up to 49 books. Tomorrow we will have a class discussion on our results and observations.
Next up we will be studying the structure of beams!
Today students got a chance to prepare for our upcoming Artist in Residence. Together in partners students worked through an online scavenger hunt. Next week we will have 2 artists come into our class to work with us. We will be studying Picasso and his blue period, as well as examining Cubism. Students will be connecting this to our Social Studies by picking an artifact from one of the countries to examine in detail. I have included some of the website on the blog if students wish to learn more about this fascinating artist.
Please note:
The Kindergarten children are learning about community helpers. We are very excited to be having Mrs. Bridle's husband, who is a paramedic, come to school on Wednesday, April 15. The coolest part is he is bringing his ambulance! Please do not be alarmed if you see an ambulance outside of the school on Wednesday...there is no emergency! If you have any questions, please let Mrs. Bridle know.
Your child is bringing a letter home today about our lockdown practice scheduled for Thursday April 16. Please read over this letter and let me know if you have any questions.
Homework:

Review Multiplication and division on Mathletics this evening.

Have a wonderful evening.
