Today in during the Daily Five we talked about tuning into interesting words as we read our books. Words that help us to create pictures in our heads or words that are new for us. As we practice Read to Self, we are writing down these words in our notebooks to share with the class. Paying attention to these words will help us to become better readers and writers.
In Social studies we practiced reading a paragraph and taking jot notes about the important facts. As a class we discussed what facts were most important in the paragraph we read. We are learning a lot of interesting facts about the countries we are looking at in grade 3. Did you know that there are no cars allowed in old Tunis? We found this fact interesting and we made some inferences as to why there would be no cars allowed in old Tunis.
In Math we continued to work on subtraction with regrouping using base ten blocks. We will continue to practice this strategy tomorrow.
In writing today we learned about the editing process. During this process we are learning how to look closely at our writing and start to fix some of our errors.. Students have been making corrections to their work and conferencing with me about their editing as they prepare to publish their pattern stories.
Reminders:
Spelling test is on Thursday this week
Mystery Object
Please remember to bring in your mystery object. It can be any small object, for example a special toy or a paper weight, a photo, a paper clip, a shell, or fancy button, just to name a few.
