We started the day with a combination of Daily Five and Writer's Workshop. Some students needed some time to complete writing assignments and their stories. We are planning our book launch for the afternoon of Thursday May 19. The students would like to have some special snacks to share with just our class when we are finished with our book launch. We will create a list of what students would like to have for special snacks and have a sign up on our Blog.
Today we were treated to a special musical performance by a Celtic fiddle player. Ask me about this and the difference between a fiddle, and violin.
In Human Sexuality we spent some time going through items that help support the changes that happen during puberty. Students looked at different items in a puberty kit that we borrowed from our school health nurse. Tonight for homework students will be working to give some advice to a friend about how to manage some of the changes that occur during puberty.
In math we worked on converting fractions to decimals, and adding with decimals. We will continue to work with this next week.
Finally we ended our busy day by working with the bike stations in the gathering space. Students got hands on experience working with bikes and tools to help explore simple machines.
Note from Music Room:
New West Symphony and Chorus is pleased to offer you and your students an opportunity to attend one of Calgary’s premiere choral and orchestra performances next month. “Shaped by Song”, NWSC’s Spring concert will take place on Saturday, June 4, with both matinee and evening performances. NWSC, a 65-member choir and orchestra, takes us on a journey through songs that have made a difference and shaped our lives. Every song written has the opportunity to have an impact - to shape an individual, a family, a generation, or history. From Frozen to Josh Groban, this show will be a hit for all ages!
NWSC performs under the direction of musical director David Klob. Purchase tickets for students for the special price of $15, or for adults at $20. Please pass this on to your students!
