Today we had another busy day in grade three! We started our day off talking about how to choose good fit books.
We learned the I PICK strategy for choosing good fit books. This stands for:
I choose a book
Purpose: Why do I want to read it? Am I looking for a book to read for enjoyment, or do I need a book to help me with my special Science project?
Interest: Does this book interest me?
Comprehension: Do I understand what I am reading?
Know: Do I know most of the words?
We will continue to work with this strategy throughout the year.
After learning this strategy, we went to the Learning Commons to look for good fit books. Students will be able to sign out books from the Learning Commons starting next week.
We all participated in the Marshmallow Challenge. Students were given 18 minutes to build a free standing structure out of string, tape, 20 pieces of spaghetti, and a marshmallow. They needed to put the marshmallow on the top of their structure.

Students worked in teams to collaborate and refine their structures. They discovered what worked and what didn't as they listened to each others ideas and tried to create the tallest structure. Following the building challenge we looked at a slide show of the task. Students were able to reflect on the activity and their thinking behind the design choices they made.
Just a reminder tomorrow is early dismissal, students will finish at 11:15 tomorrow.
