We had an exciting day of learning today in grade 3. Students had their first spelling test today and are bringing home their tests today. They are also bringing home their new words for next week. Students are in different spelling groups with each group having different words. If there are any questions about which words your child needs to practice please feel free to contact me.
The next spelling test will be on October 3, 2014.
Students had time today to choose new books from our classroom library so they have enough reading material for the Daily Five for next week. Students practiced using the I PICK strategy.
We had time to work on our self portraits today using mirrors to help us look at our features.
In Math we had an estimation challenge where students had to estimate the number of magnets in a glass jar. The students were very close in their estimations with one student guessing the answer within 1 magnet.
Information about SLAs:
Grade 3 students are piloting a new assessment tool to help improve student learning. These assessments are digitally based and focus on literacy, numeracy and cross discipline competencies.
The assessments will run from September 29 to October 24, 2014. Parents will be provided with detailed information to help guide learning. Please read through the attached information bulletin for more information about the SLAs.
