Students completed the last two activities for the numeracy performance task portion of the SLA's. Next week we will begin the Language Arts performance tasks.
We had a chance to do one rotation of the Daily Five today.
We had our spelling tests today and students did very well. They are bringing their test home today and have recorded their new words for next week on the back. Here are the words we will be working with next week:

Our next spelling test will be next Friday October 10th.
We began to add colour to our self portraits today using the chalk pastels.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Next week at a glance:
We will be continuing with the Student Learning Assessments. We will be working on the literacy performance task.
Language Arts:
As we continue with the Daily Five this week our mini lessons will focus on developing the comprehension strategy of asking questions throughout the reading process.
I will model being actively involved in reading by asking myself questions before, during and after reading a section of text. Then students can practice this skill as they work through the different Daily Five tasks. Students will have an opportunity share their learning with their classmates as we practice this strategy together.
Math
We will be introducing different stations to continue to develop number sense.
The concepts that will be covered by the stations will be:
-Extend a given skip counting sequence by 5s, 10s, or 100s forward and backward, using a given starting point.
-Extend a given skip counting sequence by 3s, forward and backward, starting at a given multiple of 3.
-Extend a given skip counting sequence by 3s, forward and backward, starting at a given multiple of 3.
-Using mental math strategies for adding two digit numbers.
-Discovering different combinations of numbers that add together to make 100.
-Choosing from a variety of materials like playing cards, flash cards and written equations to practice their mental math strategies (basic facts).
-Playing a game called Place Value Blast off, this game will help students to understand place value of numbers up to 1000.
Science
We will continue our work with hearing and sound.
-We will learn about the human ear and how it can detect sounds. We will learn that there are ways of measuring the loudness of sounds and that loud sounds pose a danger to the ear.
Social Studies
We will use what we know about quality of life to analyze the quality of a fictional character's life. Using the story Fly Away Home by Eve Bunting, we will identify and discuss factors that could be changed to improve the character's quality of life.
