We have started our guided reading groups and are lucky to have the help Mrs. Lauf during this time. We were able to read with four different groups of students during our Daily Five time today.
In Social studies we used our Writer’s cycle to work on our Important Things about Quality of Life Book. Many students participated in an editing conference. During this teacher/student conference students can receive feedback that will help them to edit their work.
In Science students enjoyed a hands on experiment where we used and a rock and a container of water. As we dropped the rock into the water we observed what happened to the water. This experiment served to paint a partial picture of how sound waves travel and move outward, (although this demonstrates a flat pattern and a true picture would show the sound waves radiating in a spherical pattern).
A Special Request
I would like to make a request. We had four portable CD players ,which students have been using for the listen to reading job in the Daily Five. During this job students can enjoy listening to a story and following along with the book. They can learn new words and hear stories that are read with fluency and expression. They also love to have their own story to listen to in their own space. Unfortunately one of our players was broken this week.
As you are going through your electronics this week, please consider donating any working portable CD players (Discman) that you no longer need to our class. We would be very grateful and put them to good use!
Reminders
Please remember that students should not wear their halloween costumes to school tomorrow.
Fun food lunch is tomorrow.
Book orders are due Friday.
Spelling test is on Friday.
Have a lovely evening,
Mrs. Predika
