Today we started to work on the Literacy Computer portion of the SLA’s. They are coming along great and the students are almost all completed. When students were finished with their SLA work they worked in the classroom on a Math assessment that was assessing student understanding of our the number concepts of place value and skip counting.
In Social Studies today we created our list of important things that people need to have in order to have a good quality of life. Students spent time brainstorming ideas that they could write about for their page in our class book.
We have started our guided reading groups. During this small group instruction time, focused lessons will take place to target specific needs to further develop students’ literacy skills.
Spelling
In case your child did not bring home their spelling words for the week, I have posted the spelling words for each of our spelling groups on Friday’s blog. A strategy that we worked on today in the Daily Five was writing sentences that have our spelling words in them (one sentence per word). You may want to try this activity at home to help your child practice their words and use them correctly in a sentence. Each student should know what group they are in.
Science
This week students will be starting a at home project where they will be creating their own musical instrument. I will be sending home an information sheet about this tomorrow. Please look for this sheet in your child’s communication duo-tang.
Reminders:
Spelling test will be October 24, 2014
