SLA's
We will have some time early in the week to look at some of the tasks and questions for the SLA's. Early in the week I will give the students time to ask questions that they may have about the assessments.
Language Arts:
We have started to build our word wall and students are practicing their sight words and commonly misspelled words when they practice their Word Work during the Daily Five.
We will also continue with our pattern writing. Students are generating ideas for a pattern book that they will be writing. They will work towards choosing one of three patterns to follow as the begin to write their own story following one of the patterns. The books that we are using are:
1. Rosie's Walk
2. Red is Best
3. The Important book
We will continue to work on our reading skills by choosing jobs in the daily five.
In Math next week we will continue to work on the number strand by understanding place value, as well as comparing and ordering numbers.
We will continue to practice skip counting forwards and backwards and learn a new game that can help us with this skill.
In Science we will be taking a closer look at how an object (tuning fork) must vibrate in order to produce a sound. We will try to answer the question: Do vibrations travel through air? We will also be learning about how the human ear senses vibrations and the quality of sound. Students will identify the relative loudness of sounds by comparing different sounds like ripping paper, book dropping, and an electric pencil sharpener. We will talk about how we can measure the "loudness" of sounds by using a sound meter.
In Social Studies
We will continue our investigation into quality of life and what students think we need to have a good quality of life.
Have a great weekend.
