Today in writing we learned about personification. We read a book that illustrated an example of personification. As a class we brainstormed topics such as rain, volcano, waterfall, clouds, sun, water, snow, wind and stars. We then wrote an example together about rain. Students worked in table groups to compose different examples of personification that fit with their topic choice. Here are a few examples of what we wrote:
Volcano:
The volcano yells out its anger.
The lava jumped out and scurried down the scorching hot volcano.
Steaming lava ferociously dancing and jumping in the volcano.
Ocean:
The ocean stares at me.
The ocean’s waves tackle me toward the dry sand.
We will continue to work with personification tomorrow.
In Social Studies we have completed our project proposals for our India research. We are starting to look for information in books, taking jot notes and recording our research in data banks under the correct topic headings.
Our book launch for staff and students will be on Friday January 23, 2015
As a class we brainstormed what we would need for our book launch. If you would like to contribute to one of the items on the list just send me a message in the comment section of the blog, then I will share it on the blog so everyone knows what items we still need.
2 fruit trays
muffins
cookies
fruit punch/juice
veggie tray
napkins
plates
cups
If you would like to send in other items that are not on the list, just send me an email or write a note to me on the blog.
Thank you for your support with this very exciting event!
Spelling test will still be on Friday.
Please make sure your child reads for 15 minutes each night.
Have a wonderful evening.
