Today in Social Studies we worked on completing our jot notes and turning our jot notes into sentences. We also learned about creating a topic sentence for our paragraphs. Students should be finished their research tomorrow. They need to hand in their jot notes and sentences by Friday. If they use their class time tomorrow they should be able to finish their jot notes and sentences by the end of class tomorrow Next week we will be writing our paragraphs and creating our textbook pages from the templates that can be found on the blog under the Social Studies tab. If you have any questions about what is expected please feel free to contact me.
In Math today we learned how repeated subtraction can help us figure out the answer to a division question. If the question is 8 divided by 2, you would see how many time you can subtract 2 from 8 and that is your answer. We used a number line to help us with our subtraction.
We will review this strategy tomorrow.
On Wednesday and Thursday we will review in preparation for an assessment of our learning about Multiplication and Division on Friday.
This afternoon we had another visit from Mrs. Nicole, our school OT, to help us learn more about the zones of regulation. She discussed with us some different types of triggers that can make us lose control over which zone we are in. For example, different types of tasks, people and even different events can be triggers. We learned that the same trigger can be negative for some people, and positive for others. One person may love the rides at Calaway Park, but they can be scary for others. We realized how it is important to be aware of our own triggers. We will continue implementing these strategies in the classroom.
Students were assigned math homework on mathletics today. Students should work on these tasks for about 20 minutes a night. They may take more that one night to complete the tasks. They should try to complete the assignment by Thursday.
We still need a few more flyers for our upcoming Math project. If you have any from this week that you no longer need please send them to school with your child.
On Tuesday May 5th our class and Mrs. Predika’s class will be going on a field trip to the Glenbow Museum. We will get a chance to explore various artifacts from Tunisia, Peru, Ukraine and India. Permission forms will be sent home tomorrow, and we need 7 volunteers to accompany us. Please send me an email if you are able to volunteer.
