Welcome back! I hope everyone had an enjoyable spring break.
I would like to welcome Brock Mercer to our classroom. He is a student teacher from the University of Calgary and will be working with us in room 58 for the next four and a half weeks. We are excited to share our learning with Mr. Mercer.
In Science today we worked in small groups. Our challenge was to work with 50 linking blocks to see who could build the tallest free-standing tower without it collapsing.
Students were then challenged to see if their tower could withstand an earthquake! All of our towers were stable and some were as tall as 47 cm. Students learned the importance of collaboration when working to create their structures.
In Math today we started to talk about multiplication. We learned that multiplication is repeated addition of equal groups. Some student learned that they could use skip counting to find out the answer to a multiplication question.
Tomorrow we will spend time creating multiplication equations and providing examples of equal groups.
In writing we worked with picture books to discover different settings, and problems for short stories. Tomorrow we will use this to help write our own beginnings.
Students will have new spelling words on Thursday this week.
Math question of the day: If the answer to the question is 15, what might the question be. Try to be creative and come up with as many different questions as you can.
Please read for 15 minutes this evening.
Have a wonderful evening.
