Another exciting Monday!
We had our second day with the djembe drums. Today we learned that when we hit the drum in different places it makes different sounds. They have also been working on learning a 16 beat break and putting two different rhythms together. We are truly enjoying our work with Mrs. Bean.
In our read aloud today we were trying to figure out what Ivan is planning on doing with all those paintings he is making. We talked about our answers and we will work on adding evidence from the text to help support our answers. We will start working on our dioramas tomorrow so it would be great if everyone could bring in a box about the size of a shoebox..
In Math today we learned about perimeter and area. We were working with grid paper and square tiles to create animal shapes for our zoo. Students had to meet certain requirements to create different shaped animals for our zoo. The animals could have the perimeter of 10, 12 or 14 units. They needed to have an area of 6 tiles or squares. The animals could be 3, 2, or 1 square high. The students enjoyed the challenges of trying to create different shaped animals that fit into the appropriate criteria.
In Writing today we read a Kevin Henkes story titled Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse. Students recorded the setting, characters, and problem in their Writer’s Notebook. Once they completed that task they wrote a reading response connecting with some of the experiences of the characters in the book.
Spelling test is Wednesday
Please bring in a box that is about the size of a shoebox for tomorrow.
Student Led Conferences are Thursday from 8:00am-8:00pm.
PD day Friday March 20, 2015: No School for Students.
Have a wonderful evening.
