Today we talked about the difference between a fact and an opinion. That led us into a discussion surrounding point of view. This discussion was the groundwork for us to develop a persuasive argument, trying to convince our families that we should get a certain type of pet. Developing these persuasive arguments challenged us. We learned that stating facts about the animals was not going to be persuasive unless we could turn that fact into an advantage. For example a dog might be active, but how does this benefit our family? The reason might be that an active dog will help our family to stay fit and healthy. We will continue to work more with this writing next week.
In Math today we had a little fun with Hit the Target. We tried to figure out how many hands were in our class. We then we tried to figure out how many fingers were in our classroom. It was interesting to see the different strategies students used to try to figure these two questions out.
