Students had a full day of learning today! After spending some time examining creative story beginnings, we are now working through the entire writing process from draft to publish! Students started today with pre-writing planning. After looking at various picture prompts students talked through their ideas with their tablemates, and then formulated a plan in their writing books. We are looking forward to continuing with the writing process throughout the week.
We continued our gingerbread house planning today! After brainstorming yesterday students were excited and ready to create. We were given planning sheets to plan exactly what our gingerbread houses will look like in a step-by-step format. We had to include diagrams, lists of materials, and estimate the cost. We also had to include patterning on the roof, and we reviewed repeating and increasing patterns today. Please visit the Gingerbread Math section of the website (in the math menu on the left hand side). There are some pictures and videos explaining the process and also if you would like some extra practice for your child.
We are looking for cardboard to use as a base for our gingerbread houses. If you have any extra please send it in with your child this week! It should be strong enough to hold a gingerbread house.
I am also looking for a couple parent volunteers to come in on Friday December 12 to help prepare some of the items for our gingerbread making. If you have your security clearance and you would be available to volunteer any time on Friday during school, please comment below or send me an email!
Please also note that today was the last day for CrossFit Kids for this term. It will resume the week of January 12th.
Have a lovely evening!
