I can't believe it is already the last day of the school year! This year has gone by so quickly, but it has been a very memorable one! I feel so fortunate to have met each of your children this year. They each taught me so much and we had such a great year together. Thank you for all your gifts and your generosity throughout the year.

It's hard to believe there is now only one more day of the school year! Students worked hard today finishing up various projects (story writing, Diary of an Insect, and Literacy centres year end review). This afternoon they helped clean and sort their work and various items in the classroom.
Tomorrow is our "Muddless Mudder" (sports day). We will be spending most of the morning outside, so please send your child with sunscreen and have them dress for the weather. It should be beautiful weather! Have a wonderful night! -Mrs. Redd Fish Creek is beautiful. Flowers were in full bloom, deer were grazing, baby ducks were floating, and insects were buzzing. The kids were absolutely outstanding as we walked the pathways for our scavenger hunt. When students are so taken by a place that conversation stops and sensory observations take over, teachers and students feel completely at ease. After the scavenger hunt, kids snacked and contemplated independently, alone in nature, through writing and drawing.
We made it back in time for lunch, which allowed us to use the afternoon to work on some math, as well as watch a slideshow of the pictures we found on our scavenger hunt. Upcoming Dates: Friday, June 26: This is our last day of school. The kids will go home with their report cards at the end of the day. Question of the Day What was the most memorable part of Fish Creek Park today? Enjoy the beautiful weather! -Mrs. Redd Another busy day of learning! We enjoyed our practice evacuation walk this afternoon, and we are looking forward to our walk to Fish Creek Park tomorrow. We will be leaving at 8:30 am and returning around 10:45. It looks like the weather is going to cooperate with us! Please consider sending the following items with your child:
- Large waterbottle - Good walking shoes - Hat - Sunscreen/Insect Repellent - Snack (preferably with little/no garbage) Question of the Day What is a favourite memory from grade 3 this year? Have a great night! -Mrs. Redd Today in gym students got an opportunity to practice obstacle courses for our upcoming sports day! The gym was transformed into various challenges, and students had to work together with a partner to navigate the obstacles. We emphasized that is was a challenge not a race and that students were encouraged to try their best. We are excited for the upcoming Muddless Mudder!
Students spent some time this morning reflecting on our literacy centers. They were asked to answer 3 questions: 1. My favourite literacy centre was _________ because ___________. 2. The centre I improved the most at was ___________because ___________. 3. Next year I would like to work on _____________ because ____________. This self reflection has proven to be very valuable, and students are already excited to set some goals for next year! Please see the following upcoming dates. If you are able to volunteer for Sports Day on Friday (and have a current police security clearance) please let me know! Tuesday, June 23: Evacuation walk at 1:30 pm Wednesday June 24: Fish Creek Park at 8:30 with all the grade 3's. We will be enjoying a picnic lunch, and plan to return to the school shortly after noon. Friday June 26: Muddless Mudder (Sports Day)/Last Day of School. Question of the Day What is the literacy centre you improved the most at this year? How did you improve? Have a great night! -Mrs. Redd It is hard to believe the year is coming to an end! We really enjoyed watching the PM kindergarten assembly today where they shared about their year. They put so much work into their garden, and they raised over $1000 from their basil sale. What great examples we have in our school, both young and old!
Students are coming home with their last spelling test of the year, as well as something special for dad. Next week will be a busy one. Please take a look at the upcoming important dates: Tuesday, June 23: Evacuation walk at 1:30 pm Wednesday June 24: Fish Creek Park at 8:30 with all the grade 3's. We will be enjoying a picnic lunch, and plan to return to the school shortly after noon. Friday June 26: Muddless Mudder (Sports Day)/Last Day of School. Have an outstanding weekend! -Mrs. Redd During Math we revisited our "Number of the Day" activity which we did at the beginning of the year. Each student picks their own "good fit" number and works through a series of questions. We came up with the questions together, as the questions from the beginning of the year were too easy for our mathematicians now! This has been a very valuable activity as students have been able to compare their number of the day from the beginning of the year to now, and can really see their growth.
In art we've started creating some artwork for fathers/important important people in our lives. As we worked on this we discuss the roles that parents, care givers, and other supportive adults play in our lives. Students care deeply about everyone in their lives. Question of the Day Who are some of the important people in your life? Have a great night! -Mrs. Redd We need your help, parents! We are looking for volunteers for the following dates:
- Tuesday June 23rd at 1:30pm we will be doing a school-wide practice evacuation walk to Our Lady of Evergreen. We will need at least 2 volunteers to accompany our class - Wednesday June 24th at 8:30 AM we will be doing our grade 3 walk to Fish Creek Park/Year End Celebration. Again, we need as many volunteers as we can. Please email me if you can help with either of these dates! Thank you. Google documents are such an amazing tool! Today students were busy collaborating with their peers as they edited one another's work. Google documents allows you to "share" your work with others and both people can edit and make changes at the same time, with things updating in real time. Students received and gave great feedback to one another today. Our last spelling test of the year will be this Friday. Question of the Day Which literacy centre has been your favorite this year? Which centre have you improved the most at? Why? Have a great night! -Mrs. Redd We need your help, parents! We are looking for volunteers for the following dates:

Today during math we incorporated our knowledge of data collection and analysis to measurement and weight. Students had the task to find objects around the room that were lighter than 1 Kg, about the same as 1 Kg, and heavier than 1 Kg. After measuring and collecting data, students started to create a graph to display the results. We also talked about our "Year in Review" and went through the entire alphabet to find words that started with each letter. What an AMAZING year we have had! We are working on a fun project with this, more details to come :) Question of the Day Did we miss anything in our "Year End Review" today? Write any additional suggestions in the comment box below. Have a lovely evening! -Mrs. Redd We need your help, parents! We are looking for volunteers for the following dates:

Today students learned about a variety of Global Organizations that help around the world. Some of these include: Free the Children, UNICEF, World Wildlife Fund, Red Cross, and Doctors Without Borders. We will be continuing to examine these, and other, organizations throughout the coming weeks. Question of the Day What is something you learned about a global organization today? Have a great night! -Mrs. Redd |
