What a great start to our week! We had both gym and music today, and continued our investigation of Sound by experimenting with tuning forks. We learned that vibrations travel through the air, as well as through other mediums (such as water).
In math we continued skip counting as we examined the book "If the World Were a Village." This book takes the population of the world (about 7 100 000 000) and scales it down to a village of 100 people. First, using skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's we counted out 100 objects at our tables. Then, we read the first page in the book which talks about different nationalities. We learned that if the world were a village of 100 people then 60 would be from Asia, 15 would be from Africa, 11 would be from Europe, 8 would be from South America, 5 would be from Canada and the US, and 1 would be from Australia, New Zeland and Islands in the west/central pacific. We had to follow along with the book and use skip counting to take out the appropriate number of people for each step. This also ties in nicely with our Social Studies, as we will soon be examining how people live in different countries of the world.
We will be starting the SLA's this week. They contain 4 main components: Literacy Digital Assessment, Literacy Performance Assessment, Numeracy Digital Assessment, and Numeracy Performance Assessment. The digital assessments will be completed on the computers, and the Performance assessments include different tasks for the students to complete over a number of days. We will be starting this week with the Numeracy Performance Assessment. Please see the following link for more information (from last Monday's post). If you have any questions, please let me know.
Have a great night!
