What a busy day of learning! Today during math students were introduced to our new unit of Data Analysis. Students completed a "minute-to-win-it" game, and we recorded the data. We analyzed it and realized it was not organized and very hard to understand. Students were given a new task: Figure out which month has the most birthday's in our class. Students planned how to organize and collect their data. Some used charts, lists and tally marks.
In writing we edited our stories to ensure they had a variety of sentences. The four main types we looked at were: descriptions (blue), emotions (purple), action (red) and dialogue (green). Students used google docs to highlight their sentences in the corresponding colours. They were shocked to realize that some of their stories only contained one or two colours! Students will continue to edit and improve their stories. Students are welcome to work on this from home as they now have access to google documents which can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection.
An email was sent home today regarding our grade three community walk to Fish Creek Park this week. We are planning to go on Thursday, June 11 at 12:45pm to look for evidence of life cycles. We need parent volunteers to accompany us on this trip. If you are able to attend, please send me an email to let me know.
Question of the Day
Why is it important to have a variety of sentence types in your stories?
Enjoy the gorgeous weather tonight!
