Books, books and more books! Students got a chance to dive into many different types of literature today. To help with our upcoming research project about Peru, we spent some time learning about different Non-Fiction text features such as the table of contents, glossary, index, charts and headings. We were each given a non-fiction book and started a scavenger hunt! The task was to find as many text-features as we could. We will be continuing this tomorrow.
Students also had a chance to look through various poetry books today. We were looking for descriptive words that help to create a good picture in your mind. Poems are often quite short, but each word is chosen very specifically to help paint a picture for you. Students started to create a “Word Bank” in the back of their writing book, and they also got a chance to share some of their favourite poems with the class.
We are looking forward to finishing our scavenger hunt and starting our research project about Peru.
Have a great night!
