What a great Monday! Did you know that minerals are everywhere around us?! Today in Science we explored some common and everyday uses of rocks and minerals. We were very surprised to find that minerals make up many of the things we use on a daily basis. Anything from windows, nails, cars and even toothpaste! Take a look at this website, which shows some of the items and which minerals they are made up of. http://www.oum.ox.ac.uk/thezone/minerals/usage/games/memory.htm
We also started a very exciting project in math today! Students received a letter (see below) from the grade three team explaining that a gingerbread man from grade one has gone missing! The students have a very important job to create a gingerbread house for him. We will be working through the project from start to finish, and today we brainstormed what we will need to do and the order we will need to do things. Students made predictions about how we will be using addition, subtraction and patterning in our upcoming project.
We are looking for cardboard to use as a base for our gingerbread houses. If you have any extra please send it in with your child this week! It should be strong enough to hold a gingerbread house (not a cereal box).
I am also looking for a couple parent volunteers to come in on Friday December 12 to help prepare some of the items for our gingerbread making. If you have your security clearance and you would be available to volunteer any time on Friday during school, please comment below or send me an email!
Have a lovely evening!
