Today we evaluated our stories to see if they had everything we have talked about in LA. We also read a bunch about Ivan. We know that he has a plan to help Ruby. In Math, we worked on rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and hundred. Also, we reviewed a short quiz on numbers to 1000. How do you play Race to 1000? We talked about preparing for two Science experiments on Thursday. We can test some student samples if you know the identification of the rock. We talked about the process of becoming a citizen of a country. If your family has any stories to share about this process, we would love to hear about it.
Reminders: Spelling quiz Thursday. No school Friday.
Stephen’s Backpacks!
It is that time of year again to start going through your child's toys and books. The grade 1s will be hosting a TOY AND BOOK SALE to support Stephen's Backpack Society on November 24, 2016 for the entire day. Please send in any gently used toys and/or books starting on November 21. We will also accept cash donations. All of the money raised this year will be used to purchase backpacks filled with items like books, toothbrushes, and toys for children that live on the streets in Calgary. For more information about this program please go to the Stephen's Backpack Society at http://www.stephensbackpacks.com.
Students will have time to shop with their class during the day on Thursday. Students may bring in their money to buy items or they can make a donation if they would like. The items are usually between $1-5 each and the sale will be in the learning commons this year.
I have been looking at upcoming field trips after the Winter Break. We are going to the Bell Music Centre on January 17th, Fish Creek Park January 30 and skating at the Olympic Oval on February 7th, 13th and 15th. I will need some parent volunteers for all of these trips! If you would like to join us please send me an email with the date and field trip that you are able to join us with.
Thanks everyone,
Mrs. Wilcox
