Comment Challenge: What have you enjoyed about playing Tchoukball rebound games in the gym this week.
Today we enjoyed time with Michelle, our Artist in Residence. Thanks again to volunteers who have helped us throughout the week. Students should be able to report about their spelling quiz today. We gathered some facts about the landforms of Tunisia and are creating a unique folder to collect information from all the countries. Have a great weekend everyone, TW Comment Challenge: Mr. Mackenzie's class would like us to share some of our Readers' Theatre pieces with them. What suggestions would you have for them as they get started with Readers' Theatre?
Today was Day 3 of our Artist in Residence project. The fine art mosaics are beginning to take shape. Please join us any free time you have, but we are there daily 12:45-1:30 and 8-8:30 on Friday. Thanks to all of our volunteers so far. Your help is much appreciated. Recently, we have been spending time reflecting on our writing and considering the repeated opportunities we have had to do similar projects. The hope is that with each pass, the student skill shows improvement. So our current Language Arts tasks are letter writing and narrative story retell. How have your skills in these areas improved? Which pieces of writing in your book show the most growth? Students are showing good growth in their math operations skills. Reminders: Please see reminders from Monday of this week as they are still relevant. Have a great night, TW Comment Challenge: Name a bridge in Calgary and tell some facts about it.
Today was our second day with Michelle, our Artist in Residence. The pieces are moving forward and we learned how to dry fit and dab glue to attach the triangular pieces. In Math, we reviewed problem solving in multiplication situations. Students should be able to explain the really fun game from gym today played with rebound nets and volleyballs. We had a great time showing our Grade 1 buddies how to use helpful Math websites like IXLMath.com. In Language, we created our 3rd letter of the term to thank Mrs. HMcD for her efforts around the Grade 3 spring performance. We also reviewed the qualities of complete sentences including subject and verb. Reminders: See all reminders posted yesterday. See you tomorrow! TW Comment Challenge: What were some of the safety tips and instructions Michelle gave today on the first day of our art project?
Spelling is posted again this week and we'll resume a regular Friday spelling quiz. We reviewed the learning from our guest speaker on Friday and experimented with some new building materials for bridges in class. Have you heard of the Peace Bridge in Calgary or the Old Langevin Bridge? Today we looked at those bridges in our community and will continue looking at other examples from our community this week. Students should be able to explain the images chosen for our art project and the beginning stages of our work from today. Reminders: 1. Thanks to our volunteers. Please join us daily at 12:45 for the art project and on Friday 8-8:30. If you would like to come, please email me. 2. Some materials from the project may not wash out of clothes. Please wear something that can get dirty. 3. Spelling quiz Friday. 4. Knitting club will continue on Tuesdays for those students who have not finished their 2 hats. Please plan on coming on Tuesdays until you are finished. 5. The next group of handbell kids received a form from Mrs. H. McD about their handbell session on Tuesdays beginning May 16. Please see the sheet for all the details. 6. Book orders came home today. They will be due Friday this week - Apr. 28. Have a great evening, TW Happy Friday Everyone,
Congratulations to all performers yesterday. Both afternoon and evening performances were great! It was great to see so many family members come to support the students. Next week will be back to normal with a posted spelling list. Our Artist in Residence, Michelle Getzlaf will be here daily, helping us connect our learning in Fish Creek with art. Today we had an excellent special guest. A parent joined us to share his professional knowledge about building bridges over water. The presentation enriched our understanding of the many types of bridges, the construction materials used, the steps involved in construction and the purposes of these structures. It was excellent and the Grade 3's asked thoughtful questions. Grade 3 Artist in Residence - we are pleased to welcome Michelle Getzlaf who will help us connect our inquiry learning in Fish Creek with a legacy art project which will be installed in Fish Creek Park Environmental Learning Centre. We will need lots of adult hands to help with this project. The dates of the project are April 24-May 5. Our scheduled times with the artist for Room 72 are Monday to Thursday 12:45-1:30 PM. Friday 8:05-8:30 AM. Please let me know by email if you can support us on any days during this residency. You will help cut tile and support kids with their jobs as directed by the artist. I now have plenty of volunteers for Apr. 24. There is still space for volunteers on the other days. Have an excellent weekend, TW I wish I could post a photo of all the great singers and actors from Room 72 today. Excellent job on your first performance of ROCK! It was great to be back at school today! We are working to finish up a cursive piece showcasing our skills in cursive developed since January. It is exciting to see everyone using this skill so well. We revisited beam, truss, arch and suspension bridges and their uses. We played an animal life cycle quiz game created by the kids in Science. This feels like a catch up day today and tomorrow with a few loose ends to wrap up on a variety of projects in different subject areas. We're looking forward to seeing everyone at the performance on Thursday. It's very exciting to see their preparations turning into an entertaining show.
