Today we worked on literacy centres for the week. This included writing about class activities like the rocks and minerals centres, reading about children from our focus countries, visiting the Learning Commons, conferencing with Mrs. Wilcox about our silent reading selections, reading relevant non-fiction text online and working on our new spelling program. We are almost done our read aloud novel, Frindle by Andrew Clements and will soon move to a new read aloud called The One and Only Ivan. In Math, we looked for efficient strategies and patterns when adding numbers on the hundreds chart and reviewed strategies for single digit addition in a fun activity called Math Store. We did the first step in an Art project for Remembrance Day, and learned how to set up the board to play chess.
Reminders: Spelling quiz tomorrow. See Monday post for Halloween in class, Halloween Howl and Special Lunch orders. Volunteers needed: we could really use a set of some sturdy cardbord cut into 30 cm x 40 cm rectangles. This could be done at home or at school. Send me an email if you can help.
