Comment Challenge: Can you name some interesting materials that are purposefully used in a structure?
Welcome back students and families! We hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break! We began the day with a new desk change and worked on completing another thorough piece of expository writing about our skating experiences at the Olympic Oval. This week in Literacy Centers students will do some work on adding more detail to their Culturegrams mind maps to prepare them for making google slide presentations about the country they chose to research. Students will also have the opportunity to have some more review and practice with new Reader's Theatre stories!
Today in Science, we discussed the purpose of structures and how it impacts the materials and design. Students got their hands busy and began building a structure to protect an egg from cracking or breaking from a high fall. Tomorrow students will finish building their protective structures and we will test their durability by dropping their structures with a real egg inside from a 6 foot ladder outside. We are very eggcited to see which structures will keep their egg safe! Students should be able to describe the materials and design of the structure they build for the egg with their partner today.
In Math, students had some hands on experience working with some shape puzzles. They were pretty challenging and made us think differently than we are used to in Math. We are working on problem solving step-by-step and determining the important information provided and operations in the problem to be able to understand and accurately show how to represent and solve the problem.
Reminders:
1. Spelling Quiz is on Friday.
2. Students signed up from Mrs. Wilcox's and Mr. Mackenzie's class for Knitting Club will be tomorrow and Wednesday at lunch in the Learning Commons this week.
3. Students have Handbells this week.
4. Bow Habitat Field trip to the Fish Hatchery is on Tuesday, April 11.
5. Music Rock and Roll Performance on Thursday, April 20.
Have a great evening everyone!
See you tomorrow.
