Comment Challenge: Name countries of anthems that you have heard before.
Happy Wednesday everyone,
Today students continued learning moves of their Bollywood dance routine with Sound Kreations. Ask me to show you the routine so far. In Math, students worked on an interesting math problem that required them to use the number 4 and different operations to come up with a particular solution. It was interesting to see all the different ways students came to finding this solution. Students should be able to explain this problem. Ask your parents if they can find solutions to this problem. We are excited to hear that students have been practicing the tasks on Mathletics at home! Keep practicing and hopefully the rest of the school is too so we can have a better chance of winning the March Madness Math Contest!
We dug right into reading The Tale of Despereaux afternoon and are feeling really sorry for poor little Despereaux who is locked up in the dungeon about to be eaten by rats. We are curious to find out what happens to him and if he will somehow manage to escape.
In Social Studies, we began looking at the different anthems of the countries we are studying. Today we listened to the anthems without lyrics and analyzed the different sounds, instruments and expressions of the instrumental pieces of music. Tomorrow we will continue discussing why anthems are important and the significance of the lyrics. Students also had the opportunity of using a new online resource called Culturegrams on the Learn Alberta website to do research and make a mind map on Peru, Tunisia, India or Ukraine. There are lots of different categories of interesting facts to learn about of all the countries in the world. Some students were asking if they could explore this tool and do some of their own research at home. I will provide the link and the username and password below. You will be linked to the Learn Alberta Online Reference Center. It is in alphabetical order so you scroll down to Culturegrams and select Explore in the green box named Kids Education in the upper right hand corner. Have fun exploring the countries of the world! We are looking forward to hearing some new and interesting artifacts about different countries.
