Comment Challenge: If we want to begin testing rocks and minerals, what are some of the parts of a Science experiment that we would need to write about? (clue: materials, procedure, etc.)
Today we went on another printing mission - this time to save Agent Neat. The agent had been kidnapped by the Bad Letter Bandits. We have had 6 important printing missions and now these skills should be showing up in all school writing. Today we reviewed the entertaining beginnings created about The Magic Bike. Does it include the character, setting, problem and a combination of action, sounds, dialogue and questions. After giving and receiving some feedback, we're ready to move to the main events. What combination of sentences are needed: action, sound, description, thoughts and dialogue. In Math, what clues can you give to help someone guess a number between 0-1000? We recorded our work creating a spacious domain for Ivan. We categorized rocks and minerals and made a second attempt at a geocache map with new criteria. Reminders: Book orders were due today, but I will extend them for one more day. So, book orders due Tuesday, Nov. 15. See you tomorrow, Mrs. Wilcox Hey Grade 3! Congratulations on a very heartfelt and memorable Remembrance Day assembly. The art, music, poetry, food donations and speakers were great. It has been special to learn about Remembrance Day and the service of our Canadian military.

Today literacy centres focused on writing entertaining beginnings, putting reading goals and strategies into IRIS, reading rocks and minerals books, publishing virtue poems, writing conferences and spelling work. In Math, students are working on a problem for Ivan's domain. What shapes would provide him with the most spacious living space? What thinking strategies did you use to build? How did you know which shape was the greatest area? Spelling quiz will be tomorrow. Reminders: Remembrance Day assembly tomorrow at 10:00 AM. Wear any combination of black/red/white/grey. Hint: Captain Ahn taught us about them today? I posted the same challenge today as Friday, as we don't have enough feedback. Today, Agent Commander Legibility explained that our printing mission was about fishing letters, or letters that have tails below the line. How will you make sure you a achieving all the printing missions, including your own goal, every day? Each student should be able to tell about 12 different kinds of rocks, not in scientific terms, but in kid terms (hint - Chalk Rock, Sifting Rock). How is your skip counting by 3, 4, 5, 10, 25 and 100 coming along? We are working to improve our first attempt at a geocache map now, by including more of the features of real maps. Today we had 2 special visitors - Captain Leona Ahn, who helped us expand our understanding of the Canadian military and Ms. Trgina, who will be a MRU practicum student teacher in our class from January to April. We wrote our spelling quiz, played Reverse Bench Ball in Gym and continued to prepare for our performance in Music. Reminders: Photo retakes on Monday, Nov. 7. Today we published both poetry and letters related to Remembrance Day. We corrected our Math work related to numbers to 1000. We started to develop a plan to show how our work from Frindle will grow and change as we work with our new read aloud The One and Only Ivan. We revisited the term Quality of Life and looked at Maria - from Peru and what gives her quality of life in her country. Reminders: Spelling quiz tomorrow. Picture retakes Nov. 7. Remembrance Day assembly Nov. 10 at 10:00 AM. Wear red, white and/or black without large images on clothing. The 10th Annual Veterans Food Bank campaign is looking for non-perishable food donations in Calgary. Much of the food collected for veterans in need of all ages comes from schools. Our Evergreen School collection started at the Halloween Howl and will continue until the Remembrance Day assembly on Nov. 10. Please bring all donations to the boxes in the foyer. Thanks for your generosity to Canadian veterans. Are you a F.E.F.? We are looking for Fit Evergreen Families! If you like to get active as a family, we want your pictures to add to our F.E.F. wall. If you don’t have a picture, try and get out and do something active with your whole family and take a selfie. What are some easy ways to get out and move as the weather gets colder? Walk the dog. Throw a ball. Go for a hike. Try something new! Skiing? Snow shoeing? Cross Country skiing? Skating? Tobogganning? Come up with your own family adventure and start bringing in your photos! *Put your name on the back if you want your picture returned. *Pictures will be posted on a Bulletin Board in the school. Today we created some watercolor poppy art to use for our cards to Canadian soldiers. They will include a letter of thanks presented to Master Corporal Bains at the Remembrance Day assembly. Our Math work included practice of comparing and ordering numbers to 1000. In reading conferences with Mrs. Wilcox, we are recording strategies to meet our reading goals.
