It feels good to be back in the classroom!! Students were given a tough challenge in math today, which really involved some deep thinking. We called it the “15 Blocks Challenge.” Students were given the following instructions: You can represent a number using exactly 15 base ten blocks…what could the number be?? Students used manipulatives and recorded as many numbers as they could in their math book. The challenge question was: What is the largest 3 digit number you could represent with 15 base ten blocks? Some pictures are posted below.
Students also got a chance to test the hardness of various rocks today. We used various materials, such as their fingernail or a penny, to determine the hardness of various rocks. Students were amazed at the results, and we are now one step closer to determining what our mystery rocks/minerals are.
Tomorrow there will be a used toy sale in the gathering space. We will be going down to walkthrough and purchase items in the morning, so if you are interested send some change with your child tomorrow. All proceeds will go to Stephen’s Backpack.
Tomorrow is also the last day to bring in food bank donations! Let's try to get a few more donations from our class!
Please note that our spelling test will be on Monday next week. There is no school for students on Friday as it is Professional Development for teachers.
Have a great night!
