It turns out that rocks are amazing! We've warmed our brains to how they feel and how they look. We've applied that discussion to how they might be sorted and came up with some categories of our own. In math we dove into "making 10" as a mental math strategy - kids drew all of the ways to make 10, and practiced this skill with some addition problems. This is a very valuable mental math skill. For example, if kids know that 7+3 = 10, they know that 43+7=50, or that 470 + 32 = 502.
After our most recent story-writing assessment, we've determined that "Entertaining Beginnings" will be a good place to start. We are excited about introducing students to multiple ways to begin a story that are more interesting than, "Once upon a time..."!
Please also note that students went home with a magazine fundraiser today. If you have any questions, please feel free to send us an email. There is absolutely no pressure to participate in this fundraiser!
Have an outstanding night,
