We had a busy half-day Friday doing a variety of activities. In our Gym class, we teamed up with the neighboring Grade 4 class and played a variety of games involving Hockey, Ringette as well as Spaghetti and Meatballs. Overall, the students did a great job organizing themselves into teams and played well with the other class.
We also worked on our french using our Duolingo program and read the second chapter of Ticket to Curlew, where we discussed several pertinent questions. I’m sure that students have already have some interesting ideas they can share with their parents about the journey the characters, a father and son, have made already in arriving to Curlew and surveying their land in preparation for the construction of their farm.
We had a positive end to our day today with our circle activity called Two Stars and a Wish. Some students had the opportunity to share one or two positive things that happened to them and/or what they have appreciated recently and something that they are hopeful for.
Lastly, students were given a form today to take home and initiate dialogue with their parents. This survey-based inquiry will be used in our Social Studies work, where we will be investing Alberta’s past celebrations and challenges. The two questions are as follows:
1) When did your family come to Alberta? What brought you to Alberta?
2) In your opinion, what is the most significant event in Alberta?
Have a great start to the week ahead,
Mr. Smith.
