If you saw a picture of a kid on a skateboard in downtown Tunis, what questions would you ask? The students shared wonderings around sports, activities, streets, and transportation. We even had a student research the shapes of roofs in Tunisia (flat) compared to ours (like a triangle). From there, inferences about precipitation and climate were made. It always amazes us when we see the students thinking "between the lines" and making inferences. As the students participated in their virtual field trip, they wrote possible investigations and observations on the SMART Boards. There are screen captures below for you to check out.
We're continuing to work on our investigation around rolling dice. Students were challenged to roll 2 dice, add them up, and graph the results in a frequency bar graph. Students were still hung up on it being a "race" with winners and losers. We're working with them to use mathematical vocabulary such as "most likely" and "least likely", but the investigation is just in the beginning stages!
Tomorrow we are excited that the students will be completing their acrostic poems, which means that we can begin reading and creating Haicus by the end of the week.
It was another excellent day of learning!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Hordyk
