How do you begin a story? For adults, we know to engage the audience early, to introduce the setting and the characters, and work use descriptive language - children, however, may require more specific strategies. We've asked students to think about beginning with an action, a sound effect, dialogue, or a worry/wonder. These 4 strategies are quite different, but practicing them will enhance the quality of student work dramatically.
The students found that arches support weight. We won't go into detail about why that is, but discussing arches over dinner and talking about the experiment that students did this week and last week will really reinforce the idea. Also, while driving over a bridge, students could make observations about the shape and features that are holding the bridge up.
Upcoming Events:
-Pictures are due in on May 20th.
-We are participating in Quest Theatre next week.
Question of the Day:
What is the problem in the story you wanted?
("My main character wants/needs...")
