Students are going through the third and final cycle of a difficult math problem on Monday. The problem involves addition and subtraction of 3 and 4 digit numbers, and requires some complex thinking. Each table group created a number out of base-10 blocks, then the students went around the room, solving the problems in the picture below. Each student was able to be successful on this task, but there were not any students who finished!
As we continue reading The City of Ember in the mornings, students are thinking critically about the purpose of reducing, reusing, and recycling while they are swept away into a world of darkness. They have recently added descriptive words for the two main characters, Lina and Doon.
Tomorrow will be a busy day as we continue work on our Social Studies research and explore the connections between The City of Ember and the world we live in today.
Question of the Day:
In what ways are Lina and Doon similar, if any?
