What a busy day to wrap up a busy week! We had planned an hour block for students to create artwork inspired by Henry Matisse. Using cutouts of construction paper, students created abstract shapes (some with straight lines and others with curved lines). They then played around with composition and organized their colours in a way that they could predict where the viewers eyes would travel.
We've introduced a new "Unthinkable" to the students called Mean Jean. Mean Jean can get into our brains and make us do things that we know are not okay (In The Whole Brain Child, the authors describe Mean Jean as "Right Brain dominance", where emotion gets the best of us and logic can't enter the picture). Mean Jean makes kids do things like hit, kick, punch, or steal things from others. Children reflected on situations where they (or others) had Mean Jean in their brains.
Literacy Lunch was a blast! Thanks to those would made it. If you missed it, we have created a website with all of the resources so you can do the activities at home!
Question of the Day:
Choose a couple of the artifacts from the picture below. Can you describe (in full sentences!) how they were used in their learning?
