Today was so, so busy. We have an art project in collaboration with the other grade 3 classes where the students will study cubism, sketching, and painting, as they draw objects and expand their understanding of composition. Today we talked about lines and had the students draw half of an image upside down. A number of the students were surprised to see that when the focused on the lines rather than the thing itself, their pictures actually looked like the original! Connecting with this part of their brain, students were able to focus on the lines and the image without being distracted by what they think it "should" look like.
There is homework for the second part of this task. We have asked that all students bring an image they could sketch by Wednesday next week. The image should have lots of lines, not a ton of shading, and it should be something they are interested in. We will use it as our last practice before we begin sketching artifacts from Tunisia, Ukraine, India, and Peru.
There was a fire alarm today. For the most part, students understood the need to stand in a quiet line, to move quickly, and to listen to instructions. To teach students this, we tell them about the 4 'S's:
Silent
Single File
Serious
Safe
Please review this with your children so that they understand the urgency in being as safe as possible.
Question of the Day:
Check out the website below! One of our lucky students explained what his days were like while he was in Disney Land! Enjoy the writing, have a good weekend, and we'll see you on Monday!
