Wow! Second day back and students are already stretching their brains and learning new things!
This morning students logged into their emails for the second time at school and wrote me an email telling me what they did over the winter break. It sounds like everyone had a wonderful time!
This afternoon we began learning fractions! This is a difficult concept to start, but with time and many more activities students will develop their understandings further. We began by discussing how a fraction is part of a whole thing. We learned that the numerator is the part, and the denominator is the whole number of pieces. We then used a variety of sources (a SmartBoard activity, a book and a real apple) to help us understand. We will continue to learn and make fractions in many ways tomorrow!
Quick note! Today the permission form for the Bell Music Centre and a new Scholastic order form were sent home. The permission form is due back by Monday, January 9th and the Scholastic order by Friday, January 20th. Please also send your report card envelope if you have not yet!
Have a wonderful evening!
