Wow! What a day!
Today we had the opportunity to go to Studio Bell at the National Music Centre downtown. The students had an amazing time! We spent the first part of the morning experimenting with vibrations, timbre and volume by making our own trumpets out of a mouthpiece, plastic tubing, and a funnel. Then we made sound sandwiches using popsicle sticks, straws, and rubber bands. They make a really cool kazoo sound, and can be made out of things found at home!
Students then did a scavenger hunt throughout the museum, experimenting with a wide variety of instruments (from guitars and pianos to drums and a theremin!) and learning about the history of music in Canada. We also attended a special demonstration of the Kimball Organ - a huge combination of many instruments that is controlled from one piano. Students loved hearing the "Star Wars Theme"!
Quick reminder that Scholastic orders are due back by Friday.
I hope everyone gets lots of rest tonight (I spied a few sleepy heads on the bus back!) and has a wonderful evening.
