Today students used vertical and horizontal number lines to create their own pictures! We used a grid and the number lines to find coordinates and draw a smiley face. Ask your student where we find vertical number lines in real life, and how we can plot a point.
We are starting a new conversation about poetry. We discussed how we know we are reading a poem (it rhymes, it is short, etc.) and looked at some examples from Shel Silverstein and William Carlos Williams. We discussed how poetry is about expression and feeling something. Students took this and then created their own poetry journals with pictures and magazine images. Ask your student what is important to them they chose to put on their book!
A message from the wonderful Mrs. Henderson-McDade!
Hello Families,
It is an exciting time for grade 3 students as they begin their recorder unit. Mrs. H-McDee would like to request the following to ensure that all recorder classes are successful and ideal learning environments.
- Students are asked to ONLY take recorders home to practice on WEEKENDS
- When practicing at home, you may want to set up a specific time period e.g.. 5pm – 5:15pm
- Practice sessions of 15 minutes each on Friday, Saturday and Sunday are recommended
- Never play recorder outside in the cold/hot weather
- Recorders can be cleaned in the dishwasher or with warm water and dish soap.
- Please make sure they are completely dry before placing in baggie or case
MOST IMPORTANTLY:
- To ensure proper recorder tone, encourage player to Breathe warm air GENTLY into recorder and COVER any holes required for each note
** Students should never blow hard enough to make any loud/squeaky sounds
Good Luck and Happy Playing! (& Listening)
Have a wonderful evening!
- Ms. Bell
