Welcome back! I hope that everyone had an excellent break and got to go outside to enjoy all of this snow! The students came back from the break refreshed and ready to learn (though a little sleepy this morning from the early start!).
This morning we switched our focus to non-fiction texts. We discussed the differences and similiarities of fiction and non-fiction. We then zoomed in and identified several features found in a non-fiction text that help us understand what we are reading. We will be using these skills later for a research project. Ask your student how they can recognize a non-fiction text!
As the start of the year it is always a good idea to do assessment prior to teaching the concepts to see what the students already know. This is what we did in math today. Students received assessment on fractions, multiplication and division. We will be learning these concepts throughout the rest of the school year.
Quick note - I have been looking at upcoming field trips for the next two months. We are going to the Bell Music Centre on January 18th, Fish Creek Park on January 31st and skating at the Olympic Oval on February 6th, 8th and 14th. I will need some parent volunteers for skating and Fish Creek! If you would like to join us please send me an email with the date and field trip that you are able to join us with. Thank you to those parents who have already emailed and are able to join us!
Have a wonderful evening!
