Today students began applying their knowledge of rocks and minerals to a series of experiments. Using a series of unidentified rock samples, students performed a variety of experiments to test for hardness, and used vinegar to test for the presence of carbonates. Students then used a key to help them identify the rocks. Tomorrow we will see if the guesses were correct!
This afternoon students read a book about the sculptor Alex Banda. He takes scrap metal and transforms it into beautiful, large sculptures of local animals. We learned about how people can find inspiration all around them (and got a few ideas for ourselves!). Students then learned about Alberto Giacometti, the Swiss sculptor. He was inspired by human shadows, and made long, thin sculptures of people. Tomorrow with our buddies students will create their own Giacometti sculptures! Ask your student what they would like to create!
Have a wonderful evening,
- Ms. Bell
